Our basement is something that we have worked on before but it never felt quite right. It had so many dark accents throughout the space which is so unlike me. I felt like I was constantly searching for inspiration to spark some creativity and to have that ‘AHA’ moment! Well, I finally had it and am SO excited to share the final results. I decided to fill in the empty space by the fireplace with custom built-ins and I am in love! I’m not sure what took so long! It provides additional storage space and room for more decor favorites. We also decided to completely redo the wall with the fireplace which was entirely black before and opted for this beautiful casa blanca veneer stone instead. This immediately brightened the space!

I have custom built-ins in my office and living room which inspired my choice to add some here. I used the custom stain that I use on pretty much all white oak in both our home and our cabin, it’s so light and organic. The brass picture lights create a beautiful ambiance in the evening, putting these custom beauties on display!

I didn’t want this space to feel too crowded since it’s close to two walkways. I added a tall vase with beautiful cherry blossom stems, perfect for the summertime! Playing with the height of your decor pieces is key to styling anything. With that in mind, I added these candlestick holders, all different heights of course, to complement the height of the vase. I opted for this neutral, abstract wall art to tie the accent table and rest of the basement to the black paned sliding doors.

Using different textures throughout a space is so important in creating depth and dimension and I kept that in mind when shopping for furniture. The new and improved fireplace accent wall already creates that cozy feel and the ottomans play off of that. The brass textured vase with bright faux greenery adds some depth to the space. You can’t tell me this space doesn’t have so much more character and personality!

This space has truly been transformed and reflects the organic and modern style the rest of our home carries. We love cozying up on the couch with the fire lit and a fun movie for the family! I really can’t wait to decorate this space for each of the holidays coming up – you guys know I take decorating for the holidays very seriously!
