When styling any room, whether you are starting from scratch or giving it a refresh, it’s important to start with one BIG piece that you can build the room around. I have found it easier to build onto something rather than try and mesh pieces together like a puzzle piece that doesn’t exactly fit. When selecting your ‘big’ piece think of an area rug, large furniture like a sofa or coffee table – staple pieces that you most likely won’t change once it’s on the ground. When styling this space, I opted for a neutral sofa, a unique wooden coffee table, and an area rug that complemented both colors well! Once I arranged (and re-arranged) these pieces the way that I wanted, the real fun began with adding accent decor! Remember, if you use pieces that YOU love, your space will always be timeless.

You can style a side table however you choose but you must know they aren’t only meant for coasters and photo frames. You can transform your living room with the simple placement of a few decor pieces! These coffee table books serve as a great plant stand, especially if you use faux florals like I do. It adds dimension to the tabletop without taking up TOO much space. Create a warm and inviting ambiance by using candlelight. Overhead lighting can clash with a living room styling but candles, floor lamps, and table lamps are an amazing lighting alternative! Sticking with neutral tones gives not only a minimalistic feel to the space but also a timeless one.

Empty spaces are bound to happen no matter which room you choose to style. Console tables are an elevated piece of furniture that combat empty space with grace. Not only can they distract from the blank canvas that is the back of a couch, they provide even MORE room to put your favorite pieces on display! Add a touch of the seasons to your living room with a textured vase and seasonal faux florals. You may be surprised what adding a bit of life to your living room can do for the overall feel of the space! Again, ambient lighting should not be overlooked. How a room feels when you walk into it matters as much as how comfy and cozy your couch is!

Styling your living room with neutral pieces gives the opportunity to balance the entire room as a whole. Even if neutral home decor finds aren’t your first choice, you shouldn’t dismiss them too quickly. Utilizing neutral tones throughout your living room adds contrast to the space and keeps it from feeling monotonous. The power of a textured vase and dried faux florals sitting atop a dark wooden table is unmatched! Don’t be afraid to use neutral pieces in your living room – they complement almost any color extremely well.
